The Long Island Music Hall of Fame Announces Student Scholarships Recipients for the 2014-15 Academic Year

Port Jefferson, NY - September 10, 2014 - The Long Island Music Hall of Fame has just awarded five $1000 scholarships for students in the Long Island, Brooklyn and Queens area. This scholarship honors exceptional high school students that have shown an in interest in pursuing a career in music.

This year’s 2014 music scholarship recipients include Justin Albinder, Catherine Chang, Timothy Diovanni, Jennifer Lindell and Joslyn Thomas. Albinder is a graduate of Hauppauge High School and currently attends Ithaca College. Chang is currently attending NYU, studying Music Education and attended H. Frank Carey High School in Franklin Square. Also receiving scholarships Timothy Diovanni, a dual major music performance and political science at Columbia University, Jennifer Lindell from Shoreham-Wading River High School and Joslyn Thomas of Herricks High School currently attending Westminster College in NJ Majoring in Music Ed.

Catherine Chang stated, “I love interacting with people… the camaraderie between musicians is like no other…unbreakable bonds are formed as people help each other become better musicians and , ultimately, better versions of themselves through patience and diligence….I aspire to become a music teacher who shows students grace whenever they make mistakes, as my mentors did for me.”

Lindell commented, “I do not want to teach because I am afraid I would not inspire people as a performing musician. I want to teach because teaching is inspiration, and by teaching something as truly beautiful as music, I can change lives one phrase at a time.”

Thomas said, “As a Music educator, I hope to foster an environment of creativity and make my students think in different perspectives about the world.”

Long Island Music Hall of Fame (LIMHoF) is a 501(c)(3) museum organization dedicated to the idea that Long Island's musical heritage is an important resource to be celebrated and preserved for future generations. Since 2010, over $5,000 in scholarships has been awarded annually to selected members of the Gemini Youth Orchestra of Melville, Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Manhasset and Children's Orchestra Society of Queens. In 2013, a special scholarship was awarded to a selected student at Hofstra University.

The mission of the Long Island Music Hall of Fame is educating the public-especially students-about the wealth of musical talent that has been a part of the area’s heritage from its beginnings to the present day. Many of the world’s top stars have found inspiration and have been nurtured by the region’s love and support of the arts. LIMHoF wishes to inspire all young people, and perhaps future musicians, by teaching them about this unique heritage.
