SECOND ANNUAL GOLD COAST INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

October 24-28, 2012
On Long Island’s North Shore

Presented By The Great Neck Arts Center & The Town Of North Hempstead

Actor/Director/Producer/Writer Edward Burns & Author Nelson DeMille
Among The Honorees

(Great Neck, NY) Regina Keller Gil, Executive Director and Founder of
The Great Neck Arts Center and the Gold Coast International Film
Festival; Aviva Miller, Festival Director; and L. Somi Roy, Senior
Programmer, are pleased to announce that the Second Annual Gold Coast
International Film Festival will kick-off on October 24th, 2012 for
five days and nights of bold, dynamic films, programs, panels,
tributes, conversations, awards and festivities.

The Second Annual GCIFF will be presented by the Great Neck Arts
Center, with the Town of North Hempstead as Founding Sponsor, and
Clearview Cinemas in Long Island’s North Shore communities of
Manhasset, Roslyn, Great Neck and Port Washington.   Venues for many
of the events and parties include some of the fabled Gold Coast
mansions that were once the havens for New York’s business and
celebrity elite, including NYIT's de Seversky Mansion (former DuPont
estate), the Oheka Castle, commissioned by Otto Kahn, and the former
Chrysler Mansion (currently on the grounds of the United States
Merchant Marine Academy).

The Festival roster will include feature length narrative, documentary
and short film competitions with the Panavision and Deluxe Audience
Awards; an out-of-competition series that will focus on classics and
forgotten gems; foreign films; conversations with prominent members of
the film community; and signature series, panels and special events.

This year we will honor, among others, Long Island’s own Edward Burns
(The Brothers McMullen, She’s the One, Saving Private Ryan),
consummate actor, producer, director, and writer with the “Artist of
Distinction” Filmmaker Award.  A special screening of his latest film,
The Fitzgerald Family Christmas will be presented during the Festival.
In addition, Best-selling author Nelson DeMille (The Gold Coast, The
Gate House, The General’s Daughter) will receive the Festival’s “Gold
Coast Legend Award” honor.

The 2012 Gold Coast International Film Festival will present a great
group of films and programs – An overview of some of these include:

Iconic Hollywood:  includes a screenings of a classic silent film with
live music accompaniment, as well as conversations with Hollywood
power personalities and more.

Heroes:  A tribute in film and television to those who protect and
defend our nation; includes films, broadcast, visual and musical
presentations.

The Best of Long Island:  Films and candid conversations with
producers, directors and writers from LI that have made an impact on
the film industry.

Movies that Rock: Films that tell stories about some of our most
famous musicians and bands.

Animation: Master class with Oscar-nominated animation artist Bill
Plympton, featuring his latest film program featuring the
best-animated shorts of New York’s Children’s Film Festival

And, of course, we’ll be bringing the best in International films,
Indies and shorts (the shorts program will feature both new shorts and
a selection of outstanding and award-winning shorts, and student
shorts, from the past several years).

The full program of the 2012 Gold Coast International Film Festival
will be announced in early October.

Among the wonderful sponsors of the 2012 Gold Coast International Film
Festival are Town of North Hempstead, Jon Kaiman, Supervisor; Nassau
County, Edward Mangano, County Executive; Great Neck Arts Center;
Douglas Elliman; AMC Networks; Cablevision; Clearview Cinemas; NYIT;
News 12 Long Island; Newsday; Deluxe; Panavision; Katten Muchin; and
J.M. Kaplan Fund.

The Gold Coast International Film Festival celebrates the rich
culture, history and talent of this fabled region. The “Gold Coast”
was once a haven for New York’s elite such as the Pratts, Whitneys,
Roosevelts, Fricks, Guests, DuPonts, J.P. Morgan, and Otto Kahn, and
today their mansions exist as museums, historic spots and party spaces
(which GCIFF makes good use of). Great Neck (the hub of the Festival)
was home to many celebrities including Groucho Marx, Joan Crawford,
Paulette Goddard, Charlie Chaplin, W.C. Fields, George M. Cohan and
other titans of the silver screen. Most apropos, F. Scott Fitzgerald
wrote his most famous work The Great Gatsby here. Today’s Gold Coast
remains a confluence of culture and class. Those influences from our
past combined with the artistry, storytelling and technology of
today’s world, enable the Gold Coast International Film Festival to
thrive and soar and present our audiences with a fantastic and
accessible festival experience.  Everyone’s Invited!
