PWWD Teaches Children About Water Conservation

This month is Water Conservation Awareness Month.  To honor the occasion, Port Washington authorities have put together a new water conservation education program to teach children how to conserve.  The Port Washington Water District (PWWD) program is designed to be fun and engaging for children in public and private kindergartens and elementary schools.  Commissioners have provided children with activity books so that they will form an understanding during their early formative years of the importance of water conservation for the future.  Conserving water protects the environment and can also cut back on the cost of utilities on Long Island.

Children are taught that water is the fundamental basis of all life, and are taught how the water cycle works and how Long Island’s aquifers are involved with the cycle.  Children also learn about the importance of living sustainably and how they can participate in conservation efforts by making responsible decisions in their day to day lives.  “These inspiring children’s books bring important safety and environmental issues to life,” states PWWD Commissioner Mindy Germain.  “It’s important for them and everyone to remember that water is our greatest and most critical resource and we can’t survive without it.”
