oey's Adoption Day at the Islip Animal Shelter

The Suffolk County SPCA will be present this Saturday, October 13^th at 11:30 am at the Town of Islip Animal Shelter, 210 South Denver Ave., Bay Shore, where the family who is adopting Joey will be announced.  Joey's "forever home" was selected from hundreds of applicants.  The event will also feature an Adopt-a-Thon at the Islip Shelter. October is Adopt A Shelter Dog month. 

Roy Gross, Chief of the Suffolk SPCA, who will be present at the adoption said that Joey was thrown from an automobile sometime in the afternoon on Saturday August 11^th near Pilgrim Psychiatric Center on the Sagtikos Parkway in Brentwood.  
The male Pit Bull puppy was in a closed black plastic bag and was taken to West Islip Emergency Veterinary Clinic by Islip Animal Shelter personnel.  According to Veterinarians who treated Joey, he suffered from multiple neck fractures, was malnourished, and had bite marks on his neck.  These wounds indicate that the he was probably used as a bait dog by dog fighters.

"There is a $27,000.00 reward for information leading to the arrest and comviction of those responsible for doing this heinous act to Joey," Gross said. Chief Gross is asking anyone with information to call the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722. All calls will be kept confidential.
