On Wednesday, March 6, leaders from Northwestern Mutual’s Melville, N.Y. office will award the John Theissen Children’s Foundation with an oversized $50,000 check as a result of winning Northwestern Mutual’s 2013 Community Impact Award. The regional award honors a Northwestern Mutual office that demonstrates outstanding volunteer efforts. More than 43 volunteers from the Northwestern Mutual office have logged 470 volunteer hours in the past year at the nonprofit’s events.
The John Theissen Children’s Foundation provides support services for sick and underprivileged children and their families by running holiday toy drives, operating the Family Fun Center, funding hospital stays and medical treatments, and fulfilling patients’ wish lists. The grant will be used to help families manage medical expenses and fulfill child-patient wish lists. The additional funds come at a special time for the organization as many of its families are still working to recover from the effects of Hurricane Sandy.
