Northrop Grumman Moves Jobs Away from Long Island

Northrop Grumman in Bethpage announced in 2013 that they would be transferring 850 jobs from their Long Island location to offices in California and Florida.  This accounts for 60% of the workforce currently employed at the Bethpage location.  At that time, Spokeswoman Christine Restani stated that some employees were already moving.  She did not state how many employees would be relocating and how many jobs would be replaced, but it is clear that not all of these employees will want to leave the area.

Farmingdale-based defense contractor Telephonics Corp. mentioned however that they are pleased to hire ex-employees from Northrop Grumman who opted to stay on Long Island.  Many of the employees that are affected by the company’s decision are considered to be among the top performers in the aerospace industry.  “Telephonics has a wide range of positions we are currently recruiting for and encourage qualified Northrop Grumman employees not wanting to leave Long Island to review these openings.”  Some of their openings date into the summer, which is when the transfers are expected to peak this year.  The work which Northrop Grumman is performing on manned aircraft is being moved to Melbourne, Florida, thus the transfers.  The 550 employees remaining at Bethpage will work on cybersecurity and radar jamming.
