Mysterious Clipboard Falls From the Sky and Nearly Hits Long Island Resident

Gus Binos from Shirley, Long Island, was outside washing his car on Thursday afternoon around 3:30, when he heard a crashing noise nearby.  Glancing 20 feet to one side, he discovered a metal clipboard which had fallen from the sky.  The clipboard was full of aviation instructions, and thus presumably fell out of an airplane passing high overhead.  Binos did not mention noticing an airplane.  He was very startled when he found the clipboard though.  “It is a very sharp piece of metal.  I mean, with the velocity that it was coming down, it would have stuck a hole in my head,” he explained. 

According to Adam Rosenberg, an FFA examiner, these clipboards are usually strapped to the pilot’s leg for quick reference.  How the clipboard would have made it out of the plane is unclear.  It could have been left on the wing during preparation, but if so, it seems strange it would stay on the plane for so long before finally falling off at such a height.  It is more likely that a door was opened at some point and the object fell out of the plane that way.  Either way, Binos is a lucky man.  It is a good thing his car wasn’t parked 20 feet closer.
