Long Island's Buffalo Wing Festival

Yesterday marked the inaugural Long Island Buffalo Wing Festival at Bay Shore.  Even though the festival is brand new, it was a huge success.  Sixteen local restaurants showcased their wings, serving up a wide variety of recipes.  Honey BBQ, Thai peanut, and even strawberry shortcake dessert wings were featured at the seven-hour event at the Nutty Irishman.  Around 700 guests showed up to try the different wings, and three contests were held to try and select the winning flavors.  Even Flow Bar & Grill was selected as “crowd favorite,” for traditional mild and tropical Thai chili wings.  T. J. Finley’s took first place for traditional flavor, as well as first place for unique flavor for their garlic-chili wings. 

During the festival, local bands BigBandJoe and Czech Funk showed up to provide entertainment, and fun carnival games like a mechanical bull and a dunk tank provided extra fun for families in attendence.  This first wing festival was so successful that an even larger event is planned for next year.  With a bigger venue, event planners believe as many as 3,000 people might attend next year’s event.  Around $2,500 from the ticket sales from this year's event will be gifted to Long Island Cares, a hunger relief organization.
