Long Island Man Reunited with Man Who Saved His Life

Nick Secchi, a Long Island resident, was walking his puppy along Millburn Creek when his puppy got away from him and jumped in the creek.  Immediately the puppy started to drown, so Secchi threw himself in after.  While Secchi could swim, he didn’t realize that the bottom of the creek was deep in mud which would create enough suction to pull him under.  Fortunately for Secchi, a contractor taking a break between his jobs was walking by.  When Blaise Gibson saw Secchi’s despair, he risked himself to pull Secchi out of the creek, and even managed to save the puppy as well. 

After the police arrived at the scene to investigate the crisis, Gibson disappeared.  Secchi was not content to let Gibson vanish without a thank you, so he returned to the same park where he almost drowned every day for 45 days until he ran into Gibson again.  “He’s making me feel great over here,” Gibson told the press.  “I was just doing what a regular person would do.”  But Secchi knew better.  “I don’t know about a regular person, now.  I’m not so sure a regular person would’ve hung themselves over the wall the way you did.  You really went above and beyond.”  Secchi himself went above and beyond to say thank you.  While he is moving to a warmer climate, he says he plans to stay in touch with Gibson and hopes they will be friends for life.
