Hollywood Casts Spotlight on Oyster Bay

Thanks to two new films, Oyster Bay in Long Island will be getting some attention on the big screen.  First, moviegoers will be able to see Oyster Bay in the epic religious film “Noah” starring Russell Crowe and directed by Darren Aronofsky.  The Brooklyn-born director had the life-size ark replica constructed in the Planting Fields Arboretum State Park.  The forest in the park serves as scenery in the pre-flood part of the film.  Its isolation from roads and traffic made it a great choice for filming without interference.

The other film is called “Breathe In.”  Directed by Drake Doremus, it tells a romantic story about a middle aged married man who becomes obsessed with an English exchange student. Oyster Bay provided a lush, verdant atmosphere for the outdoor scenes in the film.  “We were fortunate enough to be there in the dead of summer, when the mood was really sultry,” said Doremus.  “it provided a fertile, Garden of Eden-like feel.”  While both films have completely different plots and tones, each director was able to make great use of some of the most beautiful forested terrain on Long Island.  The two films should help to draw even more attention to the natural, scenic areas which make Long Island such a popular destination for tourists.
