Guilds Further Support Good Samaritan Hospital's Cardiology Services

John Mitty Tuesday, December 18, 2012

The Guilds of Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center recently presented $50,000 to The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation to support the hospital’s cardiology services.

This donation will support the acquisition of the most advanced technology available for the hospital’s Cardiac Electrophysiology Laboratory, including equipment for performing electrophysiology ablations to treat abnormal heart rhythms. The Guilds’ donation will also enable the purchase of equipment used for pacemaker and implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) battery replacements. This equipment uses much lower temperature than a traditional surgical knife making it safer by preventing the patients existing pacing leads from being damaged by the heat.

“We are grateful for this generous donation, which helps us to purchase technology and enhances our ability to perform the most complex cardiac procedures,” said Assistant Vice President of Cardiology Services Halsey Bagg.

Good Samaritan Hospital’s fully integrated cardiovascular services offer superior, comprehensive care. Good Samaritan was one of the first community hospitals in Suffolk County to perform primary angioplasty to swiftly open blocked arteries during a heart attack and was the first in the county to offer the combination of primary elective angioplasty and a cardiac rehabilitation program. Patients across Long Island turn to Good Samaritan for a variety of cardiology services such as angioplasty, temporary pacemaker insertion, electrophysiology studies, stress testing, EKG testing and more. In addition, Good Samaritan has been recognized with the Get With The Guidelines® –Heart Failure Gold Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association for the third consecutive year.

Made up of more than 600 volunteers from surrounding communities, the Guilds have helped sustain the hospital for more than 50 years. They devote themselves to two retail sites, as well as more than 25 other areas of the hospital. Guild members, working with hospital leadership and the Foundation, have supported Good Samaritan’s work from the earliest days.
