Greenport, New York – March 19,  2012 -  The Village of Greenport, New York, the host of the TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® Race Series on Memorial Day weekend, 2012 has secured its first corporate sponsors, both of which are nationally accredited and respected Long Island establishments.

Greenport will be the second port to host the tall ships fleet Memorial Day Weekend as part of the TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® Race Series.  The sail begins in Savannah, Georgia (May 3-7), races up the East Coast to Greenport, Long Island, then to Newport, Rhode Island (July 6-9) and Halifax, Nova Scotia (July 19-23).  Once at port, visitors can board the training ships and meet with crews who are enjoying a “sea education.”  The Village of Greenport is planning now for the arrival of the majestic ships and surrounding events.

Peconic Landing and Eastern Long Island Hospital, located in Greenport, have generously offered to co-sponsor one of the six Tall Ships that will be featured at the Greenport Tall Ships Festival May 26-28, 2012.  Additionally, Peconic Landing will host a Captain’s Dinner at Brecknock Hall, an historic mansion built in1857 located on the Landing’s property.

“Bringing the Tall Ships to Greenport Harbor recognizes its rich shipping-village history,” states Paul J. Connor III, President and CEO, ELIH.  ELIH is proud to help underwrite the Tall Ship Race Series; and welcomes the chance to build on tradition by joining in a spirited community event filled with esteem, reverence and education.  History should be shared by all.”
