Fun-Day Art Classes for Kids with EEA Artist-in-Residence (August 2012)

East End Arts Announces FUN-DAY ART CLASSES for KIDS! With Artist-In-Residence Gena Griffiths July & August 2012

(RIVERHEAD, NYJuly 23, 2012) – East End Arts is excited to announce a series of one-time art classes with East End Arts’ Artist-in-Residence, multi-media visual artist and certified art teacher, Gena Griffiths during July and August of 2012.

Below is a list of the one-time classes held on Wednesdays from 5PM to 6PM, led by Artist-in-Residence Gena Griffiths. The cost per session is $10 for EEA members and $15 for non-members.

  • Marbleized Paper: July 25 (Ages 9-14) - Students will learn a new technique to decorate white paper using paint without a paint brush.
  • Watercolor and Print Landscapes: August 1 (Ages 9-14) - Students will use old books and watercolor paints to create a mixed media landscape collage.
  • Cubist Clay Portrait Plaques: August 8 (Ages 5-8) - Students will learn how to create a cubist inspired clay relief sculpture.
  • Sunny Spackle Sunflowers: August 15 (Ages 5-8) - Inspired by the work of post-impressionist Vincent Van Gogh, students will explore the medium of spackle to create texture in their paintings.

In addition to these classes offered by East End Arts’ Artist-in-Residence, there are a number of other classes for children of all ages throughout the summer, including:

  • OCEANIC ART on Saturday, August 11, 10:30 - 11:30 AM

Children will create masks inspired by the Inuit people, who live off of their aquatic environments. We will listen to native Inuit stories about arctic animals such as whales and seals. Children will create a personal sea animal inspired mask to take home. (Ages 5-8). Cost: $10 EEA members / $15 non-members. Instructor: Mia Howard.

  • MOM & ME ART on Monday, August 13 – Friday, August 17, 10 – 11 AM

Join your little one for a week of art! A unique, multi-generational art class that lets you and your child experience the creative process together. Age-appropriate activities will include painting, sculpture and printmaking. (Ages 2-5 years). Cost: $60 EEA members / $90 non-members. Instructor: Liz Vaiana-Cavanagh.

  • LOONEY LIMERICK STICKS on Saturday, August 18, 12 – 1PM

Participants will listen to some funny limericks, learn how to create one, cut it into a shape and put it on a stick. If time allows we will share our poems. (Ages 8-10). Cost: $10 EEA members / $15 non-members. Instructor: Patricia Richardson.
