Free Tobacco Cessation Classes Coming to Shirley

Residents in or near Shirley who are trying to kick the habit of tobacco will want to mark some dates in their calendars.  Legislator Kate Browning announced yesterday that free smoking cessation classes will be held at Mastic Moriches-Shirley Library at 301 William Floyd Parkway starting later this month.  The course is titled “Learn To Be … Tobacco Free.”  While no payment is required, students do need to register before the first class on August 29^th, which will be a program overview.

All classes will begin at 6:15 p.m.  Following the introductory class on August 29^th, the schedule will include Tobacco Additives on September 5^th, Pam Laffin Video on September 12^th, The Physical, Psychological & Habit on September 19^th, Creating Support Systems on September 26^th, Relapse Prevention on October 3^rd, and a Reunion Class on October 31^st so that students can meet up again and discuss their progress.  If you would like to register for the classes, you can call 399-1511 x 240, or speak to Public Health Educator Janis Hurley at 853-3187.  For more information, please visit http://www.suffolkcountyny.gov/HEALTH.  Attendees will also have the chance to receive smoking cessation medications for a nominal fee as part of the program.
