Free Activities & Live Music at EEA's 17th Annual Community Mosaic Street Painting Festival - May 26

(RIVERHEAD, NY, May 16, 2013) –– East End Arts is pleased to announce the activities to take place and musical acts to perform at the 17th Annual Community Mosaic Street Painting Festival to be heldSunday, May 26, 2013, from 12 PM to 5 PM in downtown Riverhead, NY. Admission to the festival is free. This beloved annual fun-for-the-whole-family festival features street painting on Main Street, along with a fine arts & crafts fair of local artists and artisans, live music on the Riverhead Town Show Mobile, face painting for children, a drum circlegourmet food trucks, various arts, crafts, dance, and music activities for the whole family, and more. Joining us again this year is professional street painter Rod Tryon, who has been creating artwork for street painting festivals and art shows worldwide for 25 years. All activities take place in downtown Riverhead on East Main Street, between Roanoke Ave and East Street, and on the grounds of East End Arts (133 and 141 East Main Street.) In the case of rain, the event will be held on Monday, May 27, from 2 PM to 5 PM. This event is sponsored by Bridgehampton National Bank.

New this year is a Festival Passport for Kids! With the passport, children and families will explore the many activities offered throughout the festival. Find the stops on the community map and get a stamp by stopping at different stations and participating in the activities! A completed passport will equate to a 5% discount on one group class at the East End Arts School.

Passport stops include:

  • “Planting Diversity” with River and Roots Community Garden. Choose from a diverse selection of flowers or vegetables to plant and take home! Passport spot located West Main Street at the southern end of Griffing Avenue.
  • “Dancing in the Streets!” with Peconic Ballet Theatre. People of all ages can learn Hip Hop or Ballet dance from trained professionals. Located 71 East Main Street.
  • Artist Andrea Cote presents “Eyes on Main Street”. Contribute your eyes and story about Main Street or try on another’s point of view. Scan the QR code on your smart device and watch a short video about one of our community members.
  • Make a bookmark with Riverhead Free Library. Use recycled materials to make a one-of-a-kind bookmark. This activity will be on the East End Arts grounds.
  • “Make your own Paper Sea Turtle” with The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservations. Find your inner artists by coloring and constructing your own paper sea turtle.
  • “Starring You” presented by Suffolk Theater. Create a personal star that is all about you. Passport location in front of the Suffolk Theater.
  • East End Arts “Gallery Scavenger Hunt”. Find the hidden items in the artwork at the East End Arts Gallery’s current exhibit: Art & Science.
  • “Help to Restore our Local Eelgrass Meadows” with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County’s Marine Meadows Program. Create burlap planting disks to be used to plant eelgrass at a future Marine Meadows event. Located on Main Street.

·         “Give Us a Hand!” at the East End Arts School. Add your handprint to our community chain of hands. Make your own one-of-a-kind artists trading card using color, collage, and creativity!


Live musical and performing acts on the Riverhead Town Show Mobile stage include:

·         F.R.E.E. Family Residences’ Jazz Choir

·         C. Chris Peters, demonstrating physics and math through music

·         St. Maximilian Kolbe Polish School Kids Chorus

·         The Tewa Marimba Ensemble from Bridgehampton

·         A performance by Lenora Dome and Belly Dance Troupe

·         The Shinnecock Thunderbird Singers

·         Rock group Liza and the Lizards

·         And more!

 

Additional activities include:

  • Fine Arts & Crafts Fair of local artists and artisans with over 30 vendors
  • Children’s activities, including:

§         Face Painting

§         Music Together demonstration, early childhood music program

  • East End Arts’ ever-popular Drum Circle led by Jerry Liggon
  • Long Island Creative Vortex, presents “Unity”, collaborative piece of artwork, where festival attendees will be invited to leave their mark and become a part of this unique experience
  • Student art show featuring student work from the Peconic Community School, Aquebogue Elementary School, Roanoke Avenue School, and Phillips Avenue School
  • And more!

This event draws over 5,000 local residents and tourists to downtown Riverhead for a Memorial Day Weekend tradition where families and friends, artists, musicians, and lovers of the arts, young and old, enjoy the creative spirit together. Festival attendees can stay connected with our online community throughout the festival and your passport stops using #eearts.

Stick around after 5 PM for Suffolk Theater’s “After-Party” Concert: Who Are Those Guys? Doors open at 5:30 PM and the show will start at 7 PM; general admission tickets are $20.
