Debbi Honoroff Elected President of Huntington Arts Council

HUNTINGTON, NY- The Huntington Arts Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Debbi Honorof as President of the Board of Directors. Prior to this appointment, Ms. Honorof served as Secretary of the Huntington Arts Council and has held several other positions since joining the board in May 2010.  Regarding her election, Ms. Honorof stated, “I am thrilled to have been elected president of the Huntington Arts Council. The arts are such a vital part of Long Island’s quality of life and so important to our local economy, but they tend to be undervalued. Working with the HAC staff and board, I hope to be able to raise awareness—and funding—to help keep the arts front and center.”

Ms. Honorof is a resident of Port Washington, and is the Senior Director of Marketing Communications for Hofstra University Continuing Education, where she also develops the curriculum for all personal enrichment courses, including art, writing, acting and photography. For the past eight years, Ms. Honorof has written two columns a month for Long Island Woman: Book Corner and FYI.

"As we kick off the Huntington Arts Council’s 50^th Anniversary, Debbi’s the perfect choice for President," stated Diana J. Cherryholmes, Huntington Arts Council Executive Director. "She provides the perfect balance of rock-solid experience in the performing and the literary arts worlds as well as heart-felt passion for the communities that support them. Her contributions to date are significant." Diana also extended her thanks to Immediate Past President Andrea Maire for her leadership, “Under Andrea’s leadership the Huntington Arts Council developed exciting new youth-oriented initiatives like the “Nightmare on Main Street” student exhibition and “SPARKBOOM” events which provide opportunities for Long Island’s Gen-Y artists."  

Now celebrating its 50^th Anniversary, the Huntington Arts Council is a not-for-profit organization which enriches the quality of life of Long Islanders with programs and services that address the needs and interests of artists, cultural organizations and the community. The Council’s programs reach over one million Long Island residents, and it serves the entire region with its cultural listings at www.huntingtonarts.org.The Huntington Arts Council has been designated a "Primary Institution" by the New York State Council on the Arts, a title meaning "vital to the cultural life of New York State.” The Council is the official arts coordinating agency for the Town of Huntington, and serves as the primary regranting agency on Long Island for the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), in addition to its services to over 600 member cultural organizations and individual artist members. Programs are made possible in part by funding from the New York State Council on the Arts, the Town of Huntington, the Suffolk County Department of Cultural Affairs, the County of Suffolk, JP Morgan Chase, corporations, foundations and individuals.
