'Boots to Suits' to Help Vets Get Jobs

Ed Lynch Wednesday, September 12, 2012

There is no doubt that we owe our courageous military personnal an incredible debt. They sacrifice their lives, and sometimes making the ultimate sacrifice, in making sure that our liberties and freedoms are protected while also helping other countries develop these ideals. When they come home from deployment they are met with unemployment as the economic outlook in the US is rather bleak. One organization is trying to combat this with a free class in Central Islip.

An event that is called, "Boots to Suits" will be held Saturday, September 14th from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Touro Law School in Central Islip. This free event is being offered to any veteran, National Guard active members, reservists, and those working within the military environment. It was planned, and being hosted by the Suffolk County division of the New York State chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.

James Mullin, who is a Vietnam veteran, will be one of the presenters at this upcoming event. Mr. Mullin is also a retired director of the undergraduate social work program at Adelphi University. Along with Mullin will also be Michelle Cavaleri. Ms. Cavaleri is currently serving as the clinical director of South Shore Counseling and Meditation Center in Bellport and Brookhaven hamlet.

One of the topics that will be discussed at this event is the way that military servicemen and veterans can use their service as an employment asset.

Hi Ed,

This article was very insightful. I've lived in CI for 8 years now and I'm looking forward to attending this great event.
