Atria Senior Living Sponsors Walk For Alzheimer's Breakfast Pavilion

John Mitty Tuesday, August 6, 2013

Bay Shore, NY — For the sixth consecutive year, staff from Atria Senior Living will play host to more than 1,500 walkers who will participate in the 10th Annual WALK For Alzheimer’s that takes place on Saturday, September 7th, 2013 at Old Bethpage Village Restoration.

“Our Walk is a huge success because of the dedication of the Atria team who arrive at 5:00 a.m. on the day of the Walk to produce their famous Make Your Own Omelet Breakfast,” says Mary Ann Malack-Ragona, Executive Director/CEO, Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc. “Those who have attended the Walk at Old Bethpage will attest to the amazing food, service and supportive atmosphere provided by everyone at Atria — a testament to the families these amazing individuals serve on a day-to-day basis.”

The Walk For Alzheimer’s is a celebration of the efforts of many who help to create awareness and raise funds to help support the mission of the Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center which is to support local research and to provide ongoing support for local families who are faced with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Currently, 5.3 million people in this country have Alzheimer’s disease and more than 60,000 of these individuals reside on Long Island. By the middle of this century, it is estimated that approximately 14-16 million people will have a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease; 1 out of 8 baby boomers is at risk.

Atria Senior Living is one of the nation’s leading providers of independent living, supportive living, assisted living and memory care services. Home to more than 13,000 older Americans in 27 states, Atria communities provide respectful, quality services designed to promote independence and help seniors enjoy fulfilling lifestyles. Atria Senior Living, Inc. and local Atria Senior Living Communities have been in the forefront of supporting ADRC’s efforts to assist Long Island families who are coping with the challenges of Alzheimer’s Disease. These communities provide much needed training sites and work hard to develop Mini WALK events that have raised thousands of dollars so that ADRC can continue to provide valuable programs and services for all those affected by this disease.

The Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, which is headquartered in Bay Shore and has a satellite office in Southampton, is the only local Alzheimer’s Disease advocacy and educational facility whose mission is to provide hands-on support and services to families on Long Island and the New York metropolitan area. ADRC works with family members, health care professionals and researchers to ensure quality health care and support to those impacted by dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease through care and consultation, information and referral, training, support groups, and caregiver safety products.
