Art Exhibit Featuring Individuals With Autism - Family Residences And Essential Enterprises

OLD BETHPAGE, NY (FEBRUARY 20, 2013) – Family Residences and Essential Enterprises, Inc. (FREE), a not-for-profit agency that supports more than 3,500 individuals with different abilities on Long Island, has announced it will present an art exhibit called “Chaos and Containment” featuring individuals participating in its art therapy programs, during April which is National Autism Awareness Month. The exhibit will be featured at The Patchogue-Medford Library located at 54-60 East Main Street in Patchogue, NY.

The unique exhibition will feature artwork created by individuals with Autism and other Developmental Disabilities who are participating in FREE’s Art Therapy programs. FREE is a leader in the world of human services, dedicated to helping individuals of all abilities to realize their full potential and prevail over life’s challenges.

Originally introduced as two separate artistic expressions of the feelings of chaotic emotional turmoil and the subsequent expression of containing this turmoil, FREE individuals will also share the second and third phase of integration of these two inner states, brought together in one coherent, organized expression reflecting a powerful step on the road towards self regulation, balance and control.

“FREE would like to express our deep appreciation to the Patchogue-Medford Library for their support in helping our artists to celebrate their talents with the community,” commented Robert S. Budd, CEO for FREE. “We strive to provide innovative services such as Art Therapy that offer the people we support a creative way to communicate their feelings and enrich their lives.”

Over the years, much has been written about the power of art for healing and communication, as well as the benefits for individuals who may find it difficult to express their thoughts and feelings through spoken words alone. The images on view will serve as testament to this power, as the artists have touched feelings of anger, fear and chaos and transformed them into feelings of safety, trust, understanding and love, creating an opportunity to send their message out into our world, contributing to world peace and harmony.
