National Grid Employees To Load-up Trucks With Turkeys To Donate To Thousands Of Residents In Communities Hit Hardest By Sandy
WHAT: National Grid employees will unload 2,500 turkeys that the company purchased and is donating to three of the hardest hit communities by Superstorm Sandy, including Long Island, Staten Island and the Rockaways. An 18-wheeler carrying the frozen birds from a Tyson plant in Georgia will stop at National Grid’s training center in Melville, NY where employees will unload the 18-wheeler and load-up trucks that will be dispatched to deliver the turkeys to churches, soup kitchens and other venues where complimentary community Thanksgiving dinners have been planned by the company. National Grid is also donating money to each venue to purchase an abundance of sides including vegetables, stuffing and desserts to accompany the meals.

WHY: Superstorm Sandy was one of the worst storms to hit the New York area in decades and National Grid wants customers to know that we are here for them and remain committed to helping those that have lost the most in the communities we serve. At the annual time for giving thanks, when many customers are still without service or have lost their homes, National Grid wants to help customers beyond the meter and make sure families without resources this season can still celebrate Thanksgiving. This is our way of giving something back to our customers who have been patient, kind and understanding as we continue to work feverishly to restore power and gas service.
